Over 240 vintage, classic and customized cars, trucks and motorcycles were displayed once again at the Museum of Aviation during the 14th Annual Wings and Wheels Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show on Saturday, October 14, 2006. Proceeds from the show sponsored by Terry Holmes Ford Lincoln Mercury Hyundai in Warner Robins benefit the Museum of Aviation, one of the largest education-focused aviation museums in the United States. The show is free to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Vehicle entrants competed for trophies in 49 judged classes and many entrants won valuable door prizes and cash giveaways.
Spectators also had a chance to win big. A drawing was held at noon for a Little Tikes H2 Hummer battery operated vehicle from Wal Mart. The winner was 5-year-old Marcie James from Forsyth, GA. A silent auction was held with items for mom, pop, and the kids including a Power Wheels battery operated Mustang Convertible from Wal Mart, a 26" girls bicycle, a Delux space package for two from TibiDaBo Spa and Salon, tickets to a Brooks and Dunn concert, Four tickets to Theater Macon's Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, a ride in a WWII-era open-cockpit bi-plane and more. Papa John's Pizza gave away "free pizza for a year."
"Cards For Kids" Poker Fun Run
A "Cards For Kids" Poker Fun Run held on Friday evening, Oct. 13, drew over 100 participants. This event, sponsored by Corvettes Ltd. Of Central Georgia, Steak and Shake and Hooters Restaurants on Margie Drive, was open to anyone with any type vehicle and benefits the many education programs provided by the Museum of Aviation. In addition to cash prizes for the best five-card poker hands, a variety of door prizes were given away from Hooters, Steak and Shake and other merchants, including two dyno runs from Reeves RPM Performance in Warner Robins. Vehicles cruised to selected merchants in Warner Robins for cards and surprises and ended up at Steak and Shake and Hooters for an outdoor party with disc jockey Tommy Landrum.
"Runway Races" for Kids and Other Attractions
Wings and Wheels had something for the whole family with '50s and '60s oldies music by Tommy Landrum, performances by the award-winning Southern Flare Cloggers, plastic model and radio controlled aircraft models on display, vintage race cars from the Georgia Automobile Racing Hall of Fame and "Runway" Races for children ages 3 and up. Children raced their 6-volt and 12-volt battery operated vehicles down the 200-foot simulated runway in the Museum picnic area. Each young driver received a prize. The Kickin' and Screamin' monster truck from Florida took riders around the Museum grounds for a higher perspective of the car show.
